Counselling Programs - For Families, Children and Youth - Burnaby and New Westminster

General family counselling, counselling for children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse and trauma, and mental health counselling for children and youth.
Many types of counselling programs are available for children, youth, and their families based on their needs. These programs may include individual counselling for the child or youth, parent support, and/or family therapy. Counselling programs offered:

Family Counselling Program: Provides counselling up to 12 sessions for children or youth under 19 with a range of family issues. Referrals may come from any source.

Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP): Provides counselling up to 24 sessions for children and youth under 19 who have experienced historical sexual abuse or sexual assault with a clear disclosure. Referrals may come from any source.

Sexual Health Intervention Program (SHIP): Provides counselling up to 12 sessions for children 12 years of age and under exhibiting sexually intrusive behaviour. Referrals may come from any source.

High-Risk Youth Program (HRYP): Provides counselling up to 12 sessions for at-risk youth under 19. There is minimal wait for this program. Referrals must come through the Ministry of Children and Youth Development (MCFD).

Trauma Program: Provides counselling up to 12 sessions for children or youth under 19 who have experienced trauma. Referrals must come through Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).

Child and Youth Mental Health Program (C&Y): Provides counselling up to 12 sessions for children and youth under 19 experiencing moderate mental health issues. Referrals must come through the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Program.

Brief Family Program: Provides short term counselling up to 8 sessions for children and youth under 19 with families experiencing a recent unexpected event. There is minimal wait for this program. Referrals must come through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).

Brief Sexual Abuse Counselling Program: Provides short term counselling up to 8 sessions for children and youth under 19 who have experienced a recent incident of sexual abuse or sexual assault with a clear disclosure. There is minimal wait for this program. Referrals may come from any source.
