Assisting the Community with Transitioning Students (ACTS) Program - From elementary school to high school

Provided by Cameray Child and Family Services

Works with grade 5 - 7 students academically and socially to help prepare them for the transition to high school.
The A.C.T.S. program (Assisting the Community with Transitioning Students) supports grade 5-7 students with the successful transition from elementary school to high school through Homework Clubs in 10 Burnaby schools (12th Avenue, Cameron, Cascade Heights, Douglas Road, Edmonds, Gilmore, Second Street ,Stoney Creek, Stride and University Highlands), group activities and mentorship.

The Homework Clubs include a healthy dinner and tutoring by trained high school volunteer mentors. When dinner and homework are completed, they are able to participate in open gym time. The children benefit physically, emotionally, socially, and academically, while creating healthy relationships. When they reach high school, they are more confident academically, and are received by familiar faces, and this contributes to a successful transition.

Check out the brochure about the program.
