Get Up And Go! - Falls & injury prevention classes

An entry level exercise program for seniors (65+) with balance and mobility impairment who would otherwise be unable to attend a community based exercise class.
COVID-19 Update: At this time, there are only 3 locations offering The Get Up & Go! program: the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre, the Lifetime Learning Centre in Mission and the Century House in New Westminster. Please see the attached referral form for this information

The Get Up & Go! program is a version of the Osteofit program at BC Women’s Hospital. It provides an entry-level exercise program for seniors with balance and mobility impairment who would otherwise be unable to attend a community-based exercise class. It is a safe exercise program specially designed to improve strength, balance, and coordination as well as functional ability independence and quality of life.
Eligibility criteria:
  • 50 years of age or older
  • Must be able to ambulate independently, with or without a mobility aid
  • May use a mobility aid such as a walker, cane wheelchair, or scooter.
  • Must be able to follow direction through verbal or physical gestures with or without the help of a caregiver
  • Must be able to tolerate light and moderate levels of physical activity
  • Not able to safely participate in a community class due to physical and/or cognitive concerns
  • Must have transportation to/from the class (e.g. arrange own Handy Dart transportation)
  • Must commit to 1 session per week for 6 weeks

Subsidy for this program may be available through a referral from the Fraser Health Fall and Injury Prevention Program.
