Provides genetic counselling and genetic testing for BC/Yukon residents who may have inherited an increased risk for certain types of cancer.
The Hereditary Cancer Program provides genetic counselling and genetic testing for BC/Yukon residents who may have inherited an increased risk for specific types of cancer.
Patients do NOT have to travel. Most appointments are by telephone. We offer some patients the option to access genetic testing via an online portal, where the blood draw can be done local to their area.
The updated
HCP Eligibility Criteria prioritizes individuals who are most likely to have a hereditary cancer risk, including:
- People with a relevant personal history of cancer, tumours or polyps
- People from families where a pathogenic variant has been identified
- People with a first degree relative (parent, child, sibling) with specific cancers
- People without cancer predicted to have a higher chance for hereditary cancer based on validated risk prediction tools
- People who were referred and no longer meet the updated eligibility criteria and their referring providers will receive a letter with more information.

A referral is required. Patients are welcome to contact HCP to discuss self-referral.
