LEAF - Late Effects Assessment and Follow-Up

A clinic for adults who have survived childhood cancer and are not being followed up.
BC Cancer and BC Children’s Hospital have created the Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors Program for childhood cancer survivors. As part of this program, a new clinic called the Late Effects, Assessment and Follow-up (LEAF) Clinic is open to ensure that adult cancer survivors are getting the best care.
Children treated for cancer are at risk for health complications later in life. These health issues are called “late effects”. Late effects change over time. Information about late effects also changes, so it is important for survivors to have up-to-date information. This program will help you get the latest information, support and ongoing assessment of late effects.
They accept patients who:
- Are residents of British Columbia, Canada
- Have active BC MSP (medical services plan) coverage
- Were diagnosed with cancer at age 17 or younger
- Finished treatment more than 5 years ago
- Are now over the age of 17 and are not being followed by BC Children’s Hospital
Individuals diagnosed with cancer over the age of 17, please reach out to be connected with the appropriate resources. Residents of BC who were treated for cancer outside of the province during childhood are eligible to attend the LEAF clinic. The team will assist in obtaining medical records from the treatment location.
Referrals are not required for this clinic. Talk to family physician about attending the clinic or reach out directly. Appointments are offered in person in Vancouver, by video conference and by telephone.
