Mental Health and Substance Use Urgent Care Response Centre (UCRC)

Provided by Fraser Health

Urgent care response centres support adults (19 years and older) who are experiencing mental health and substance use concerns and who voluntarily seek and require urgent care, but do not require hospitalization.
What to Expect:
All new clients coming in first meet with a psychiatric nurse, who will do a brief assessment to better understand what their specific needs are and to connect them with a professional or program that will best support them. These assessments can be done over the phone or in-person. After meeting with a nurse, clients will have a specific treatment plan that will include the support services the client can receive (such as counselling, groups and psychiatric consultations).

Services include:
  • Crisis Support
  • Psychiatric Consultation for Medication Options
  • Short-term Counselling
  • Connection to Community-based Services
  • Opiate agonist therapy during evening (after 4:30pm) and weekend hours (Surrey location only)

Hours of Operation:
8:30 AM to 8:30 PM (seven days a week, including statutory holidays).

Eligibility:
Adults with mental health and substance use concerns.

Note:
  • If a client is looking for a service the centre does not provide, staff will work with the client to find a program or organization that does. Click here for a list of specialized programs available in the Fraser Health region.
  • Adults in the Surrey community who require substance use services during the week should attend Surrey Substance Use Services, click here to access.
  • Adults that reside in another catchment, or are currently attached to a local mental health team should contact their local mental health centre to access services (click here for a list of community mental health centres).
  • Clients under the age of 19 should contact the START program for mental health needs (click here for more information).

Referral:
Clients are welcome to self-refer and do not need a referral from another care provider. Also accept referrals from family members, family physicians, hospitals and other health care providers.

Clients can call (604-953-6200) or walk in.

It is recommended that referring parties (such as hospital staff, general practitioners, family members and community partners) call ahead and speak with the client care coordinator on shift to arrange timely follow up to address an individual's needs.
