Family Education & Resource Program

Provided by Burnaby Family Life

Provides a variety of education and support programs for individuals and parents to create healthy and supportive environment for them and their families.
All programs are offered in English unless otherwise noted. Some programs are free, some are by donation, and some charge a fee. Programs that charge a fee may have limited subsidies available by application. Free childcare is provided where applicable.

Family Life Education Programs:
  • Single Mothers Support Group: Come and meet other single moms, connect with resources, share stories and support in a friendly space while enhancing your independence. Free childcare is available.
  • Anger Management for Men, Understanding Your Anger: A group for men who want to gain an understanding of the causes and effects of their anger. The group helps develop skills to identify and better manage triggers and stress, and how to express emotions in a safe manner.
  • Calm & Confident Parenting: In these sessions, you'll gain invaluable insights into cultivating life-long skills and positive habits for your preschool and elementary school-aged children.
  • Curious Minds: Join us for this program to explore the world together with your children through science experiments, baking, creative reading and writing, music and movement. Suitable for children 2-6 years of age. Parents must attend with child.
  • Immigrant Women Support Group: Come and meet other immigrant women who share similar experiences. Learn about community resources while sharing your stories in a safe and supportive environment. Free child care available for children 18 months to 10 years with pre-registration. Snacks and bus tickets are also available.
  • Modern Effective Parenting: Gain invaluable insights on empowering your child to navigate the challenges of social media, decoding their challenging behaviors, and mastering the art of effective intervention. Free child care available for children 18 months to 10 years with pre-registration. Snacks and bus tickets are also available.
  • Parenting Pre-Teens: Informative sessions focused on strategies for connecting with school-age children (7–12 years). The pre-teen years are an extremely sensitive period in a child’s development and can be a source of stress for both the child and the parent.
  • Parenting for Immigrants: Come and learn useful information on child development, the Canadian school system, child-care options, positive discipline, healthy nutrition and much more. Free child care available for children 18 months to 10 years with pre-registration. Snacks and bus tickets also available.
  • Nobdoy's Perfect (Korean): This program is designed to help you get to know your child better while equipping you with valuable skills and tools to boost your confidence as a parent.
Family Resource Programs:
  • Parent-Child Mother Goose: A group experience for parents and young children, up to 24 months. The program introduces adults and children to the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs, and stories together. Parents gain skills and confidence which can enable them to create positive family patterns during their children’s crucial early years. Children benefit from enjoyable, healthy early experiences with language and communication.
  • Family Drop-In: A welcoming and engaging space designed for children ages 0-6 and their parents or caregivers. This program provides a unique opportunity for families to come together in a relaxed environment, fostering meaningful connections and shared experiences.
  • Learning Together Through Play: A fun-filled hour where children explore nature, learn about themselves, and discover the world around them through age-appropriate activities such as storytelling, songs and rhymes, movement, and dance. Parents and caregivers will also have the opportunity to connect with other families, build friendships, and access useful community resources.
  • Baby & Me Second Stage: This is an on-going weekly playgroup for parents with babies aged 6 months to 18 months. In this two-hour program, parents will play with their child, meet other parents, and discuss any concerns regarding a child’s health and growth in a clean and relaxed environment. Weekly topics included in the program are around child development, health, safety, nutrition, and learning new songs together. Free snack provided.
