Victim Services - Male Survivors Of Sexual Abuse

Provided by BC Society For Male Survivors Of Sexual Abuse

Provides therapeutic services for male-identifying persons who have experienced sexual or domestic abuse.
The following services are offered:
  • Victim Services: Victim Services Workers assist survivors with non-clinical issues regarding sexual abuse. They are trained to provide justice system information, support, liaison with justice system personnel, and court accompaniment, to male survivors who wish to explore avenues of justice. Victim Services Workers may provide information about making a police report, taking legal action in criminal cases, referral to a lawyer for civil cases, and exploring compensation options.
  • Individual Therapy: Available for male survivors of sexual abuse or domestic violence. Every client has up to 26 sessions with a therapist. After those sessions have expired, and in communication with the therapist, the client can return to the waitlist or be referred. The frequency of sessions is tailored to the individual’s needs. Sessions with a Master’s level Practicum Clinician (supervised by a registered clinical counsellor) is $50 per hour. A sliding scale is available for those with financial barriers. Please contact for more information.
  • Group Therapy: Group therapy is available at the Vancouver office for male survivors of sexual abuse and runs for 8 to 10-week cycles. Clients may participate in as many cycles of a group as they feel is necessary. Before a survivor attends his first group session, it is preferable that they have a few Individual Therapy sessions with a therapist to ensure that they are actually ready for a group setting. Group therapy sessions are two hours long and take place once per week. The cost for group therapy is $40 per session, though the agency does allow a sliding scale under certain circumstances.
