Comprehensive support services provide women and children with safety and security, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives, free from violence.
Dixon Transition House: Dixon House is a ten-bed emergency home for women and their children who are fleeing domestic violence. Women, children, and pets may stay at the transition house for up to 30 days. Dixon House provides a safe and supportive environment where women can access resources including finding alternative accommodation. Dixon House provides women and their children safety, emotional support, parenting support, resource information, networking, advocacy, and crisis counselling. They also assist women with obtaining financial assistance, accessing Multicultural Support Services, obtaining legal assistance, and finding housing.
Wenda's Place Second Stage Housing Wenda’s Place Second Stage Housing provides individual housing units in a safe, supportive environment where women, children, and pets may stay up to two years. Services include individual and group counselling, structured activities for children and youth, life skills coaching, and resource information and referrals.
Sustaining Women’s Success: Dixon Transition Society offers housing support for women and their children who are in the process of leaving Dixon House or Wenda’s Place housing programs. Outreach staff work closely with the women to support them in their search for safe and affordable housing while connecting them with their new community. They offer a variety of individual support and group workshops throughout the year that empower women to set goals, gain skills, and live independently. Workshops include topics such as financial literacy, resume building, self-defense, cyber security, income tax assistance, and more. Outreach staff also support former residents of any of our programs, connecting them to services and resources within and outside of Dixon that allow them to live freely, happily and independently.
Stopping the Violence (STV) Counselling: The Stopping the Violence (STV) program provides free professional individual counselling for women, age 19 and over, who live in Burnaby who have experienced violence in their relationships, sexual assault, or childhood abuse. Counselling services are offered in a non-judgmental and safe environment to facilitate an understanding of the emotional and psychological responses to trauma as a result of abuse or violence.
Family Counselling: Dixon’s family counselling program provides free, professional counselling to adults as well as adolescents in conjunction with their parents or primary caregivers. Clients must reside in Burnaby and have children (or be otherwise directly involved with raising children) 19 years or younger. Priority is given to referrals from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
Children at Dixon: Children at Dixon can attend workshops and activities like arts and crafts workshops, story time, baking, games, and outdoor activities. The Child Support Worker also helps with homework, and getting enrolled in school or transitioning to a new school. We also provide ample play space with toys and books for children.
