Seniors Services - Burnaby

Programs developed to support the needs of housebound seniors over 65 and residing in Burnaby, enabling them to live independently.
Programs for seniors include:
Grocery Shop-by-Phone Delivery:
An assigned volunteer will call weekly to take the order and do the shopping at the Safeway on Willingdon and Hastings. Seniors must be available to receive groceries from Safeway and pay by credit card or Safeway card.

Volunteer Visitor and Volunteer Phone Buddy:
These programs provide companionship and friendship to clients living independently in Burnaby who have health issues, concerns, and/or disabilities. Volunteer Visitors will schedule regular ongoing visits to the senior's home. Volunteer Phone Buddies call weekly to chat and check on the senior's wellbeing.

Volunteer Shopping Buddy:
Visits are to Brentwood or Lougheed Town Centre on Mondays or Metrotown on Thursdays. A volunteer can assist with shopping and banking needs or offer companionship over coffee. Free wheelchairs are available for help getting around. Staff will arrange for HandyDART for transportation to and from the mall.

Gadabout Bus Trips:
Monthly outings with seniors in which volunteers will drive to and from the bus and accompany seniors on a three-hour outing. Staff have First Aid Training.

Lunch Program:
Seniors enjoy a tasty lunch on Thursdays at Confederation Centre and make new friends at this volunteer hosted event. A volunteer driver will provide transportation to and from the luncheon. Clients pay for their lunch.

Light Housekeeping Service:
The Light Housekeeping Service is provided to Burnaby seniors based on a sliding scale according to income. This service is part of Better at Home, a program to help seniors live in their own homes longer by providing simple non-medical support services. Before applying for this service, please call inquire if the subsidy is available.

Transportation to Medical Appointments:
Volunteer Drivers provide rides to medical appointments based on a sliding scale, according to the seniors’ income. This service is part of Better at Home, a program to help seniors live in their own homes longer by providing simple non-medical support services.
